Pastel love
You can't have failed to notice all of the amazingly, pretty pastel colours appearing in the fashion world.
The shops are full of sugary, sorbet, ice cream loveliness. It's enough to make your mouth water! Peach, lemon, pistachio, lilac, pink ...
I thought I'd see how these beautiful colours would translate into interiors and I found some gorgeous ideas. It's no surprise that the following pictures have a 50's feel to them as pastels were very popular at that time. Proof then, that pastels aren't just for clothes!

Origins
I've tried to find out where this award originated and it's meaning but it all seems a bit of a mystery as to who started it and how long it's been circulating the blogosphere! The general feeling is "Liebster" in German translates to "dearest" or "beloved." Cute.
The award is given to "up and coming" bloggers with fewer than 200 followers.
The Rules
1.Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link back to the site.
2.Copy and paste the Liebster Award logo to your blog.
3.Choose five more up-and-coming bloggers who you feel deserve the award and hope that they will accept and nominate in turn five more.

Seeing spots!
Dalmatian nails
If you read this post you'll know I'm no nail art expert, but when I saw some pictures online featuring dalmatian patterned nails, I knew I'd have to give it a go!
I applied a clear base coat first and then painted my nails with 2 coats of white polish. I used Rimmel, lasting finish in London Clouds. For the spots, I used Barry M 47 Black.
The spots don't have to be all uniform and regular. I did some larger splodges and then added smaller dots and spots. You can buy a special dotting tool to do this, but I found a cocktail stick worked fine!

Try it, it's easy!

Surprise!
Curious Pancake
Just like the next person, I do love a little surprise gift. No one knows this quite as well as my husband, proven by the fact that a small parcel recently arrived with my name on it!
Prettily wrapped in white tissue and string was a cute little brooch made by lovelypigeon.com that he purchased from thecuriouspancake.co.uk
The brooch is made from plastic and features a beautifully illustrated peacock. It arrived with a little hand written note and a free shipping code too.
Thank you to my lovely husband for thinking of me when he saw it! What a sweetie. x

mooooo!
Moo
I just wanted to share my new mini moo cards!
I know several people including bloggers, who use moo for their business cards and thought I'd find out about them for myself. I was not disappointed!
There's a wealth of choice in the ready made packs, just add your details. Alternatively you can upload your own design. I chose some ready made designs and added my logo and details on the other side. They cost me around £16 and came beautifully packaged.
The website is a breeze to navigate, the customer service is excellent and the turnover time was very quick. In a word. LOVE.

Cover up!
Glossies
I don't often buy glossy magazines anymore. I used to subscribe to a few and buy every other one available at the news agents each month. My fix became a great waste of money for what is essentially a LOT of adverts featuring ridiculously priced clothes!
I enjoy looking at fashion and have an appreciation for high end design and how it can affect what we buy on the high street, but plain black trousers for thousands of pounds or a plain T-shirt for hundreds?? If I won the lottery I'm not sure I could justify that kind of money.
It was with trepidation then, that I bought Elle magazine last week. I only bought it for the freebie on the front cover. A Soap & Glory mascara.

It was with trepidation then, that I bought Elle magazine last week. I only bought it for the freebie on the front cover. A Soap & Glory mascara.
Just as I remember it, the magazine itself had about 20 plus pages of adverts before even getting to anything worth reading. However, flicking towards the back was a voucher for £2 off a £10 spend for Soap & Glory cosmetics.
I'd wanted to try the Kick Ass concealer for a while but it was always out of stock in Boots. Luckily my local store had done a re stock as I wandered in one morning and there was one(!) concealer left in my shade (light).
I'd been looking for a change from my usual concealers, Mac Studio Finish and Benefit Boing and this is a great alternative. Two shades of concealer, one for the under eye area and the other for skin blemishes. It has a nice creamy consistency, so doesn't drag on the skin. There is also a little, colourless setting powder with a small puff, which helps things stay put!
So, although the format of glossy magazines hasn't changed, and I won't becoming a regular reader again any time soon, it was worth buying it for the freebie and the voucher!
Do you only buy magazines only when there's a free gift or are you addicted to them and buy them all, like I used to do?!

In conclusion: January
Is it over yet?
January really seemed to drag and nothing much seemed to happen! In fact I think I spent most of the month hibernating, only venturing from my slumber to drink tea, watch films and read magazines. January can be summed up in one word for me:
January really seemed to drag and nothing much seemed to happen! In fact I think I spent most of the month hibernating, only venturing from my slumber to drink tea, watch films and read magazines. January can be summed up in one word for me:
Tea and words
I've not been in the mood for my usual crime thriller novels, so I picked up a book from the shelf that looked a little more "gentle." Miracle on Regent Street is tame in comparison to a lot of books I read but I quite enjoyed the change of pace. It's set in the three weeks up to Christmas and I originally bought to read over the festive period but, well life got in the way and I didn't get around to it!
Also, in January I read more magazines than usual. I really like the new design and feel of Company Magazine. I've not bought a copy of this for years and loved looking at all the new spring fashion ideas.
Film nights
As well as reading, a lot of last month was spent watching films. And eating chocolate.
As well as the above I also watched The Rise of the Planet of the Apes (still prefer the original) and X-Men Origins (quite enjoyed it) !
Crafty
When I've not been working or being completely lazy(!) I've been enjoying some crafty pursuits. Some of you may know, I make and sell jewellery, and I've had orders that have been keeping me busy.
I also bought a cute little craft kit from the sale in Boots, but am yet to get around to using it. (Story of my life!) It was only £2.50 reduced from £10. It contains everything to make two custard cream biscuit key rings! Cute!
I also got this lovely hand embroidered notebook which captures my love of craftiness and is perfect as my 2012 blogging notebook.
Lazy dog
It appears I'm not the only one who had a lazy January!
Finally
The highlight of the month came right at the end of January by way of a Versatile Blogger award It made me feel really happy! What made it even better is that I got to pass it on to some great bloggers. Never underestimate the power of making other people's day. The happiness comes back to you a hundred fold.
Also, a big hello to my new friends/readers that have clicked the "follow" button in January! Come and chat soon!

Retail Therapy: Lighten Up
Brighter days
Finally, January is out of the way. It's been a long month and it seems the high street is already dreaming of Spring.
Pastel colours are cropping up everywhere and while I'm looking forward to lighter nights and milder weather I know it's a long winter yet! However, I do fancy ditching the darker colours I've been wearing throughout Autumn and Winter, and lightening up a bit, without compromising on warmth and comfort. Jumpers and jeans in brighter hues are the perfect combination.
- Foil circle jumper: Topshop
- Yellow half sleeve jumper: Topshop
- Bird jumper: Miss Selfridge
- Heart socks: Sock shop
- High top print boots: Miss Selfridge
- Pink skunk socks: Dorothy Perkins
- Multi mini satchel: Warehouse
